Debate Party #2 Wrap-up…
Again, I want to thank those of you who joined me in watching the debate. Last night, Senators Barack Obama and John McCain met head-to-head for the second of three Presidential debates for this election year. And last night, I was joined by several friends in and out of the blogging community to watch and comment our reactions real-time right here at the Smarmoofus Spot. Mojo, MommyWizdom, the Mad Scientist, Her Majesty Mimi Pencil Skirt Queen of Bloggingham Palace, Ciara (who was late to the party, but always always welcome any time!), Tombstone (who was also a bit late… something about a matter of national security?), G-man (who popped in briefly… until he realized he should’ve made that left turn in Albuquerque), and I had a commenting good time. Erica made her apologies and expressed her deep regrets for missing this one, saying “I wanted to be ranty on the blog with ya’ll.” I assured Erica that there will be a next time, but that we did miss her.
Anyway, despite this one having “a lot less potential for funny” and several people showing up late, we had more comments than last week. We topped 350 comments, in fact. I guess we had things to say. Mojo is at work this morning, and I imagine it’s a slow day in the office for him, because he sent me an email with his picks for debate comment highlights. Doggonnit, say it aint’ so, Mojo… It’s a goshdarn good list, and now I’m gonna hafta copy it. *wink*
Hmm… in retrospect, his list is long. I will choose my favorites from among his picks…
- “Shhhh…. the candidates are lying.” – The Mad Scientist
- “They’re wandering far outside their 2-foot radius from their stools. They’re standing directly in front of the viewers.” – smarmoofus (only included here for clarity… see next two comments)
- “I think the lady who asked the ‘trust’ question wants a little personal space…” – Mimi
- “That’s ok, then the audience can smell the PreparationH up close.” – MommyWizdom
- “As a (mad) scientist, McCain’s poo-pooing of the planetarium equipment is becoming annoying (he just brought it up again). In the time-honored words of my mad-scientist mentors: FOOLS! I WILL DESTROY THEM ALL!” – The Mad Scientist
- “You will NOT bring them home in victory because YOU CANNOT WIN THIS WAR YOU STUPID SONOFABITCH!!!!!!” – Mojo
- “*takes the caffeine away from Mojo*” – smarmoofus
- “McCain should use the fact that we’re all his friends to his advantage. *husky voice* ‘My friends, take off your pants.’” – The Mad Scientist
- “I can’t leave you all alone for a minute – the thing is almost over and y’all are nowhere NEAR breaking the 300 threshold. What gives? Sorry for being a maverick here.” – Tombstone
- “‘What gives’ is this is not Palin and Biden. There’s a lot less potential for funny here.” – smarmoofus
- “‘My friends’ again. You’re not my friend, Gramps.” – The Mad Scientist
- “At least he can say nuclear…” – MommyWizdom
- “….but on the average ….we DON’T know geography.” … “I’m afraid it wasn’t part of the “No child left behind’ bill.” – Tombstone
- “I guess if you don’t know how many homes you have because you lost count, that gives you a right to be condescending *rolls eyes*” – Ciara
- “He’s a real maverick! – DRINK UP!” – MommyWizdom
- “WTF…? I think I should have turned left at Albuquerque…..” – G-man
So much fun!
Don’t forget: there will be one last debate this election season, coming up next Wednesday, October 15th, 2008, at 9pm Eastern time. You are all cordially invited to join me here at the Smarmoofus Spot, where I will have an all-new debate post graphic. (Oooh, the anticipation is building, isn’t it?) Oh, and feel free to steal this button:

I’m so sorry I didn’t see this until today! And sadly I will miss the next debate because of an anniversary party for dear friends but I will be checking back to see what you all had to say, “my friends”.

Steal the button? Why, when I can just hot link it from your blog ;)
There were just SO many classic comments last night… I couldn’t narrow the field any further.
I was still spooling down from the debate for 2 hours after…
