Random Happy Surprise Day!
Most of you are probably not aware of it, but yesterday was Random Happy Surprise Day. It was a hasty declaration, so you might’ve missed out. That’s “random” for you.

It all started on Friday when my cousin said something about going shopping on Saturday, and I told her that I wanted to go to a particular store that happens to be four-fifths of the way to the store that she wanted to go to. So she called her husband at work and asked if he would watch two or three of their four children so my cousin and I could shop without worrying about chasing down all the little monsters. Miraculously, he agreed to keep three of them. And he even let us have the easiest one. Lily is two-and-a-half, fully ambulatory, loves to shop, and the best-behaved of the kids. We had a grand total of zero (0) tantrums all day!
We had a late start (my fault… darn that getting-up-with-the-day-moon thing!), and then we kept adding stops to our trip. So we were back about four hours later than we expected to be. And my cousin’s husband only called us three times in those four hours to ask where we were or when we’d be back. Since he was such a good boy, we decided to reward him with Random Happy Surprise Day. And he got into the spirit of it, hamming it up as he opened his gift.
His gift was wrapped in Christmas paper because it’s that time of the year. The ornament on the gift was hand-engraved by my cousin. It has their family’s surname on it. My cousin’s husband looked at that, then looked at her, and asked, “Did you forget my first name?” We think he was just trying to be funny. But we did it that way because the ornament will be the family’s 2008 ornament on their tree.

We gave him:
- A $10 Neocash Card for the NeoCash Mall on Neopets.com. Billy was a few NC shy of buying an item from the Mall, so this card was much-appreciated.
- Two jars of Mrs. Renfro’s green chile salsa, which he loves (I love it, too, so I bought myself a couple of jars, as well). He’s hamming it up in this picture, because… well… we gave him salsa. Kind of a silly present. He’ll enjoy it tonight when he’s having it on his burritos, though.
- Meanwhile, there was no hamming or clowning when he found the most important thing we gave him: the Series 5 Neopets Plushie Camouflage Kougra. This, my friends (not to sound like John McCain), is an expression of pure happiness:

I didn’t know what ambulatory was so I looked it up…turns out yours is missing an ‘m’. Is that the same green salsa that is sold at that one taco place?

Oh, thanks Erica. I didn’t catch my typo. Oops.
It is spicier than the “green sauce” from Taco Time (and previously from Taco Bell), but it’s a very very close approximation. I’m very happy to have found it. It’s much better than the tomatillo-based salsa verde that is so popular in the stores now. Those are boring by comparison.

Damn. I never hear about these things until it’s too late.
And I think “My Friends” is back on the “Approved-For-Use” list again now that the election’s over. Just sayin’.
