A Boy and His Blanket

My New Blanket!Yesterday I blogged about the quilt I made for my cousin’s little boy’s ninth birthday.  At the end of the post, I promised to share his reaction today.  I was gratified (and relieved!) when Ethan opened his gift and exclaimed “My new blanket!”  He was all smiles as he pulled the quilt out of the box.

(I’m still curious about his use of the word “my”… did somebody tip him off that he was getting a new blanket for his birthday?  Or was he instantly possessive?  Either way, he seemed genuinely happy to receive it.)

It Has My Old BlanketBut then he saw one of the stripey squares of fabric from his old blanket.  He said, “It has my old blanket!” and pulled the quilt up against himself and hugged it, looking like he was about to cry.  I was worried that the emotion was negative, but he didn’t get upset.  So I think it was a hit…

When I gave him the mini quilt and pillow for his Teddy, his little sister, Lily, ran to the bedroom and brought Teddy out, and Ethan put him to bed.

Goodnight Teddy

My cousin reports that Ethan loves his new quilt. Success!

Iwill have to keep this quilt idea in mind. All three grandkids now have favorite blankets. Aidan’s looks like real rag. Jenna’s is doing better because she is younger ( and that we wisely got two blankets the same that we rotate.) Ryan’s is a cool one that says WILD THING on it. ( We haven’t found a twin yet.) Anyways I was hoping you would send me your regular email so I might keep in touch. I worry about you. Did you know that Mark (SSO) has just had his surgery!
