Wordless Wednesday: Sad

To my knowledge, this is the only doll that I’ve ever owned. I’ve had countless plush toys, especially stuffed bears, but this is the only doll. My mother bought her for me when I was about 5 years old. My older sister and two friends (who are sisters) each got the same doll at the same time. The dolls came with the red lace-trimmed dress she’s wearing in this picture, a white flannel nightgown with tiny red flowers on it, a mint green play dress, and two pairs of shoes (red ones and white ones). I still have the doll and all three outfits, but of course the shoes are a distant memory. The paint that defines her eyes has started to run due to age (she’s nearly 30 years old!) , so she looks like she’s crying. The look is appropriate today.
And that’s a lot of words for “Wordless” Wednesday.

I love the poignancy of this image. It’s beautifully lit, resulting in a very soft texture that almost invites (careful) play. Great memory!
My latest image is now up, too:

Dang you’re good with a camera – it looks like a still shot from an animated movie or something.

Great WW photo! Remarkable that you still have a doll that survived for 30 years. I wish I still had my comic books from 30 years ago…
I have a George Bush cartoon waiting for you.

She does look very sad.
The doll in Zoe’s stroller (for my WW pic) is also my doll. Zoe loves her… and also one that is much older (one from 1973!). She’s claimed them as her own.

I have a doll handed down from my mom. Probably 40+ years old! This one is a true treasure, but needs a kleenex.
