55 Flash Fiction: Demands
Wow, yay! A 55! And I wrote this hours in advance. Six hours, at least. G-man, I’m thinkin’ of you! But not with this story. I promise. No, really, I mean it. This story is not a reflection on blogging, 55ing, or anything. This place… *gestures around her blog*… this place is my escape. (Which says something about my lack of blogging lately, doesn’t it?) Yikes! More after the show.
She woke, caffeinated, settled down to work.
Her mother called up. “I am in a bind. I need you to do something for me.”
Glancing at the pile of tulle that needed to become a tutu by the end of the day, she sighed inwardly. Her mother wouldn’t wait. The tutu, most obligingly, would.
Story behind the story:
I would love to pretend that I don’t sit around wasting hours and hours of every day in my effort to perfect the art of procrastination, but that would be disingenuous. The truth is I have very few commitments, but those commitments are so important to the people I’m committed to that they can’t not be done. At the same time, though, I’m a diehard foot-dragger, so I wait to see how long I can put them off before they are done. Then I find myself very rapidly approaching my deadline with nothing but a long to-do list to show for all the time that has passed. So when I finally strike the right balance between laziness and panic and I settle down to finish what I said I’d start and something else gets in my way of progress, I get snippy. And my snippiness manifests in the form of a 55. So there! *growl*

Thanks, Brian! I did finish the tutu, and in much less time than I anticipated. So my earlier snippiness turned out to be unwarranted. See the finished project here.

First of all – welcome to my blog. I love meeting new bloggers when they comment or become followers. I looked for an “About Me” on your blog, but I didn’t see one. I always like to know a little bit about my fellow bloggers.
Thanks for your 55. I am a terrible procrastinator in certain areas of my life. Glad the tutu got completed.

I really have to stop procrastinating someday. But not today. It’ll keep. There’s important stuff to be put off after all.
