55 Flash Fiction: Nothing is Free

Thursday, February 18th, 2010 @ 10:45 pm | Uncategorized

G-man, I’m here! Finally! So sorry I’m late! Please don’t grade me down!

There was no moon and the dry winter air seemed to soak up all the light so that each step away from the house was a step into the unknown and unknowable.  But anything, she rationalized, was better than what she left behind.  This heavy void gave her hope.  Free!  Soon she would be free!

Story behind the story:

I don’t know.  Really, I don’t.  It was dark out when I went to visit some relafriends last night, and that was a feeling I had.  That’s all.

55Fridays button
is hosted by g-man (visit him to let him know if you’re playing and to see other participants).

Speaking of nothing being free, I’m going on the Great American Road Trip, take 2, with an aniticipated departure date of April 3rd.  I am currently seeking sponsors for this trip.  A page explaining the different sponsorship levels and what you can receive for your generous contribution will be coming soon, but in the meantime, please read about this trip here.

Not everything needs a story behind it. Some things simply are.

  6. Peter Stone Says:

Great 55, loved how the winter air soaked up the light, and how the void was a welcome escape from what was left behind.

  7. Hootin' Anni Says:

Having a ‘feeling’ can end up making some of the best 55s if you ask me.

TIGER TEARS is my 55 this week.

  8. SandyCarlson Says:

I walk a lot at night, and your piece captures the feeling of stepping into the dark on a moonless night. All the possibilities. And the strange emptiness.

  9. Susan Anderson Says:

I can soo relate to this 55. Walking at night does feel verty freeing as well. Something about the change in the way the air feels.

The story behind the story is that you got out of the house! It’s a story I could use now. Nice 55.

    I like this. It’s a little spooky!

  17. Otin Says:

I sometimes write like that, where there is no real meaning behind a piece. The fun part is when everyone tries to figure it out! LOL

  18. KB Says:

There could be many interpretations to this story. That’s why I like it so much.
