55 Flash Fiction Friday: Potential

Friday, January 18th, 2008 @ 10:16 pm | In writing...

Welcome to my eleventh 55 (and it’s only 22 hours late, too!). I almost copped out and just posted a poem I wrote in 1999, but I didn’t feel comfortable with putting up used material (again). Besides, the poem was only forty-five words long, and the padding I added didn’t sit well with me. So instead, I wrote this for you:

There would be no first smile (or was that gas?)… no gurgling bubbles or delighted laughter.  She won’t have to worry about four a.m. feedings or diaper blowouts. No tiny hand prints adorning the walls… no panic as she watches their little one fall.  No, you don’t get those things from racy phone calls.
