55 Flash Fiction Friday: Mirthquake
I had an esteemed literary critic assisting me in my 55 efforts this week. Thus, writing took 55 efforts this week. Ugh. What a critic! Anyway, here’s my seventeenth 55. I hope you enjoy it (and sorry for the delay… I was busy being inspired).
Laughter subsiding, she asked him, “What would you say if I wrote something risqué this week?”
“Oooh…” he perked. “Risqué is good.”
She transcribed their conversation. Reading it, he chuckled, “You doofus!”
“Yay! Doofus-point!” she erupted in another massive mirthquake, magnitude off the charts.
He smiled at her and joined. Their first laughtershocks measured twelve.
Now to resume my spinning.

Smarty, on what scale are mirthquakes measured & what is the significance of 12 in a mirthquake? At what scale does a human die laughing? :D

Very wonderful 55. It brought a smile to my face and I assume you were looking for that reaction. So nicely done, nicely done. You are a pro.

Mona, it’s funny you should ask… I almost died laughing last night. It was definitely higher than 12. *mutterchuckle* The Megamoo might’ve intentionally startled me, and I might’ve unintentionally yelped and then laughed at myself until it hurt.
(Confession: I couldn’t think of a clever name for the mirthquake scale, so I had to structure the 55 so a name wasn’t necessary. Another confession, the concept of the mirthquake and the laughtershock came from my esteemed literary critic, Megamoo… this week’s 55 was definitely a collaborative effort.)
Thank you, Barman! I was indeed hoping to bring a smile to your face. *smile*
